Exam Tips
Tips for completing your exam and case studies
When should I request my exam paper?
You should only request this when you have completed and understood all your course material fully and have prepared your case studies. Your case study will need to be marked by our examiner. This is done by a real person and is not automated, therefore please be patient as your results can take up to 10 days to be updated. Your results will be shown in your dashboard if you purchased your course after July 2022.
How many questions will I need to answer on my exam paper?
You will have 20 multiple choice questions. If you have studied your course work thoroughly then you should have no problem with your answers. Your question make up 70% and your case study 30%. You will need to receive an exam pass of 80%. If for any reason you was to fail your exam you may re-sit this free of charge.
Purpose of Case Studies
The purpose of a case study is to walk the examiner through a situation where a problem is presented, background information of the client is provided and a description of the solution you have offered, along with how it was derived. This is the same whether you are completing a massage treatment - a coaching session or even a tarot reading.
By completing a case study this will show the examiner that you have read and understood your course material and are able to show that you have applied the learning theory to a real client and can work unsupervised.
How to do a case study?
It is recommended that you undertake a minimum of 5 case studies, but only one maybe required to submit depending on the course taken. Case studies are an important part of your training and it is recommended that you practice on family and friends as much as possible whilst learning. You should have completed a minimum of 5 case studies that you feel confident with before working with members of the public and requesting your exam paper. (you will however only need to submit a maximum of 2 of these) To undertake a successful case study you should carry out a full consultation of your client.
How do I write up a case study?
To see examples of case studies please use the menu above and click on the subject you are studying. You will then find links to some relevant case studies. Please be aware that case studies need planning so we do not recommend you request your exam paper until you have already completed some case studies and have one already prepared. A rushed or poorly put together case study will be noticed and can result in a fail. (please do not worry about grammar or spelling errors too much as the examiner is not judging you on your written language skills) Feedback from Client - This should always be included and After Care Advise where necessary. Failure to submit these may mean marks deducted. Read Tips on How to Write a Case Study.
How long should my case study be?
Your case study should be a minimum of 1000 words. If you are studying an advanced level course then you may need to submit two case studies so it is best to have these already written out so when you do your exam you can then copy and paste into the exam paper
What if I am unable to find anyone to do a case study on?
Sometimes you may find it difficult to find someone to carry an actual case study on especially if friends and family are not willing. As this is such an important part of the exam we recommend you put a local advert out asking for volunteers. You will be surprised at how many people love the opportunity of trying out a new therapy for free.
When you are ready to take your exam simply email your provider and state the name of the exam being requested in the subject line. For example Basic aromatherapy exam request.
When will I receive my exam results?
Your exam case study is marked by a real person and not an automated service, therefore we ask you to allow between 7 - 10 days. You will receive confirmation that your exam paper has been received within 24hrs of submission. If you do not receive notification of receipt within 48hr please contact us.
